Review #124 Green Spot: Irish

Score: 8.5 / 10

Distillery: Midleton Distillery

Type: Single Pot Still Whiskey

All of the spots.......red spot, yellow spot, blue spot, green spot, other greens. All of the spots, all of the spots..... Sorry Rhianna, don't sue us. Believe me, we don't have money.

Seriously though, all of these are simply fantastic. If Irish whisky is your thing, you need to carefully weave your hands, and palate through this line. Red and Blue can be hard to get a hold of, but the greens and yellows are all over the place.

Green Spot is named for the color marking that they use on the wooden barrel. Can you guess how they name the other ones? Don't let the NAS scare you off, these are typically blended with expression around 7-10yrs.

Whiskey Review:

Nose: Fresh cut Honey Crisp apples explode on the nose. Its such a robust and inviting scent. Vanilla, brown sugar, sugar and clove all mix with a light eucalyptus. A faint oakiness lingers deeper in the glass.

Palate: Orange rind and citrus coat the tongue before unleashing a wave of creamy vanilla. It's very oily and stays that way throughout the drinking experience. A nice pepper slowly builds but never becomes overbearing. Light floral notes dance between more potent notes. I also find more red apple, green apple, and astringent apple peel that kicks up on the back-end leaving a light but cooling mint flavor.

Finish: Lightly tannic and moderate in length leaving vanilla, oak, barley, clove and lavender bitters. Some of the fruits fade, but mostly mix together in the end.

Score: 8.5

Availability? Common. Go to a larger store for this one, but this is the most common of the spots line. I would definitely start here if you were ever wondering about this line as the price is fantastic!
