Review #106 Little Book Chapter 4"Lessons Learned": Bourbon

Score: 8.9 / 10

Distillery: Jim Beam Distillery

Type: Kentucky Straight Bourbon

If you listen to the cast, (and you do.....) You'll know that we love Booker's. It is definitely one of the best whiskey brands. If you do too, you'll also love Little Book. This is Beam's cast strength blended bourbon expression containing, 4 year brown rice bourbon, 7 year bourbon, and an 8 year rye. All in super serial secret amounts of course.

This is a version of reading that I can get behind. By reading of course, I'm talking about replacing the boring part with drinking bourbon! If you want some Booker's coverage real time check out the Po It Up whiskey podcast episode 3 "Booker's Showdown" right here. Cheers!

Served neat in a Glencairn glass - 122.8 proof - 61.4% alc/vol

Whiskey Review:

Nose: Vanilla, brown sugar, sharp rye spice, and rose petal. A deep smoky char accompanies these notes with just a touch of honey.

Palate: Creamy mouthfeel with blooming vanilla and brown sugar (think snicker doodle in in a glass). The mouthfeel stays creamy throughout while a very mild spice kicks up. Light black pepper and cinnamon which ultimately fades leaving oak and cherry.

Finish: Astringent rye spice sticks to the pits of the mouth but the finish is moderate in length and very soft. Plenty of dry oak remains alongside light orange rind.

Score: 8.9

Scale:

S+ Sensational - The Pinnacle (9.5+)

A - AXEceptional (astounding) (9-9.5)

B - bravo (step aBove average) (8-8.9)

C - competent (7-7.9)

D - disappointing (6-6.9)

F - flush it down the toilet (fail) (5.9 below)

Availability? Uncommon-Rare. Both Booker's and Little Book are getting harder to find. However, You're in luck as they release 4 Bookers per year and I don't think Little Book is running out of chapters anytime soon.
